Priorities

A platform addressing the real needs of communities across District 10 with power, intention and impact.

Housing you can afford. Expand down-payment and first-time homebuyer programs so working people can own homes, hold corporate landlords accountable, and reform property taxes so longtime residents are not priced out of the neighborhoods they built.
Stronger protections for renters. Back the right to renew leases, protections from junk fees, a ban on the price-fixing software landlords use to raise rents in lockstep, and real investment in workforce housing.
An end to price gouging. Pass and enforce real protections against price gouging at grocery stores and gas pumps, and ban surveillance-pricing schemes that use your data to charge you more.
Lower prescription costs. Cap prescription drug costs so no one has to choose between medication and groceries.
Child care families can afford. Treat child care like the necessity it is, because no parent should pay more for care than for rent.
Wages that keep up. Raise the minimum wage and tie it to the real cost of living, so the next price hike does not erase a raise.

The freedom to organize. Stand against any return of so-called Right to Work, ban captive-audience meetings that force workers to hear anti-union pressure on the clock, and increase penalties for employers who break labor law.
Dignity on the job. Set sensible limits on self-checkout so real jobs are not quietly eliminated, require stores to accept cash, and end data-driven schemes that squeeze workers and customers.
Accountable economic development. Attach real pro-worker conditions and clawbacks to public subsidies, so companies that take our money but fail to deliver promised jobs must pay it back.
A secure retirement. Protect union defined-benefit pensions, even when an employer files for bankruptcy, and give working families a tax credit for union dues.
Protection for every worker. Enforce worker-protection laws regardless of immigration status, so no employer can use someone's papers to underpay or silence them.

Replace every lead pipe. Fully fund the replacement of every lead service line in Michigan, starting with communities that have waited the longest.
Water you can afford. Pass a statewide water affordability program that ends shutoffs for nonpayment. The state put $10 million toward water assistance this year; advocates say nearly $60 million is needed. I will fight to close that gap.
Make polluters pay. Restore Michigan's polluter pay law so corporations that contaminate our water and soil clean up their own mess, not the families who live here.
Stop the flooding. Fund the bi-county drain and stormwater upgrades this district needs, and keep raw sewage out of our basements, the Red Run, and the Clinton River.
Close the gaps in the law. Pass the statewide septic code Michigan still lacks. We are the only state in the country without one.

Hold the utilities accountable. Stand up to DTE and Consumers Energy, as I have for years at Detroit Action, advance a Ratepayer Bill of Rights, make reliability the standard, and stop monopoly utilities from passing the cost of their failures and political spending onto your bill.
Community solar. Open community solar so renters and working families can share in clean-energy savings instead of being locked out.
Real rules for data centers. Require safeguards that protect our water, shield ratepayers from higher bills, make projects bring their own clean power, and deliver real community benefits and good jobs.
Justice for frontline communities. Direct at least half of new state climate investment to communities that have carried the most pollution for the longest time.

Protect the School Aid Fund. Stop raids that divert money from our classrooms, and never balance the roads budget on the backs of PreK-12 students.
Fully fund special education. Make sure every kid, in every zip code, gets the services and support they need to thrive.
Stop the quiet pay cut for teachers. Fix the 2011 insurance cap that limits district contributions to educator health coverage while premiums climb by double digits, pushing good teachers out of the profession.
Free meals for every kid. Keep free breakfast and lunch on every student's tray, because a fed kid is ready to learn.
Real career pathways. Bring career, trades, and skilled-workforce training to students before high school, so every kid has a path to a good life whether or not college is the goal.
Fund students fairly. Move toward a weighted, student-centered formula that sends more resources to the kids who need them most.

MiCare and coverage for everyone. Work toward a MiCare single-payer system that guarantees health care for all Michiganders, and defend Medicaid and hospital financing from cuts coming out of Washington.
Lower drug prices. Cap prescription costs so no family or senior has to ration medication.
Safe staffing and respect for nurses. Win enforceable safe-staffing ratios, ban forced overtime that runs nurses into the ground, and protect health care workers from workplace violence. The Senate has passed a mandatory-overtime ban; I will fight to get it through the House and signed.
Maternal and mental health. Raise maternal and postpartum care standards, and expand access to mental health care at home and in our schools.
Care and dignity for seniors. Strengthen elder care standards and provide respite care for spouses and family members caring for an aging loved one.

Reproductive Freedom

Defend the right voters already won. Protect reproductive freedom without exceptions, and defend the right Michiganders put in our state constitution.
Protect real access. Safeguard abortion, contraception, and the full range of reproductive care, especially where access is already thin.
Keep your decisions private. Shield the privacy of your reproductive choices from government interference.

Full LGBTQ+ equality. Protect every person's right to live and love freely and equally under the law, and oppose every attempt to roll those rights back.
Dignity for immigrant neighbors. Defend due process and the rights of immigrant workers and families, and expand language access so every resident can reach the services they are entitled to.
Racial and economic justice. Tear down barriers to opportunity, upward mobility, and care, so everyone who calls this district home can thrive, feel safe, and be seen.

Money out of politics. Support the Money Out of Politics ballot initiative to bar regulated utilities and major state contractors from buying influence, and strengthen financial disclosure for officeholders, including spousal income.
A tax code that is actually fair. A nurse and a CEO currently pay the same flat tax rate. Let voters move to a graduated income tax so the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share, funding schools and water without squeezing working families.
Protect the freedom to vote. Defend automatic and same-day registration, mail-in voting, and re-enfranchisement for returning citizens; oppose new burdens that make voting harder; and pass a Michigan Voting Rights Act banning vote denial and dilution and guaranteeing language access at the polls.
More voice for voters. Let communities use the ranked choice voting already approved by Royal Oak, Ferndale, and other Michigan cities, and put that choice before voters statewide.
